There is a swirl of sheer, blatant hypocrisy in the current discussion of gun control in America. It is in a Sundae known as “America’s Too Free Mix-in”.
This writer has attempted an article about gun control for a while and all the practical solutions that have been suggested have been frowned upon by the thug mob politicians backed by the National Rifle Association (NRA).
In the summer of 2022, we have experienced two mass shootings. One for race-based hatred, one for vainglory because of the shooter’s depression and sorrow. There is no end in sight, and the copycat incidents have escalated. Our hapless lawmakers seem stymied in (their) lack of response. President Biden says we need some backbone to stand up to the gun lobby.
How ironic that the NRA’s national meeting in Houston was happening about the same time as the Uvalde incident. The arguments to keep gun laws as they are are frail and fractured. The arguments citing mental health are inconclusive and weak. There is not a cogent theory against racism and guns.
The argument that most of society’s problems have evolved as a result of father less families is popular and rings true. I am absolutely pro-father, but the thread of hypocrisy runs deep as so many people who espouse this philosophy, they are the same people who still co-habitate outside of marriage.
